Immersion Yoga with David Kim

February 23 - March 10

David Kim returns to Hong Kong in 2022 to share his teachings with us.

These focused immersion classes are designed to help you develop certain areas of your practice.

David Kim will also be leading 50hr Yin Teacher Trainings during his visit.

Wring It Out:  Yin-Yang Sidebends & Twists

Wednesday 23 February 2022 @ 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM

This targeted asana practice begins with hatha-style postures focused on strengthening the oblique muscles, which aid in twisting and lateral-bending motions of the spine, supporting overall core stabilization.  We will subsequently pacify those same side-body areas through longer-held Yin postures, in order to down-regulate any lingering muscular tension, and to cultivate a sense of both lightness and support in our overall posture.

  • Minimum six months regular practice recommended; not appropriate for pregnant women or anyone with acute injuries.

Full Spectrum Yoga:  Flow to Restore

Thursday 24 February 2022 @ 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Most asana classes offer only the briefest taste of Restorative postures in the form of a relatively short Savasana.  In this two-hour practice, however, we will exploit the entire yin-yang spectrum, and begin with a gentle full-body vinyasa flow that segues into the targeted passive stress of yin postures, and concludes with fully supported, 10-minute-plus Restorative poses to deeply soothe your nervous system.

  • Minimum six months regular practice recommended

Work in Progression:  Handstand Prep & Variations

Wednesday 9 March 2022 @ 2:30-4:30pm

This extended asana practice will embrace the challenges of going upside-down in a pose that’s both feared and beloved:  Handstand.  Addressing key areas of the shoulder and pelvic girdles, and overall trunk stability, we will create mini-progressions for each student’s different levels of strength and mobility, in order to expose our kinesthetic “blind spots” and plant the seeds of new, more beneficial movement patterns.

  • Minimum six months regular practice recommended; not appropriate for pregnant women or anyone with acute injuries.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Yoga:  Backbends & MyoFascial Self-Massage

Thursday 10 March 2022 @ 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM

This two-hour class will include a progressive backbend practice that utilizes the larger posterior-chain muscles supporting our upright posture.  The added bonus is myofascial self-massage with tennis balls to help us mobilize typical areas of resistance — such as the front thighs and hip flexors – as well as pacify areas in the lower back and gluteals that tend to overwork.  A highly accessible self-care technique, myofascial self-massage helps us sweeten the warm-up and cooldown transitions in a strong home practice.

  • Minimum six months regular practice recommended; not appropriate for late-stage pregnancies or anyone with acute injuries.

Price: $500 per class
