 Introduction to Thai Yoga Massage

Jul 26, 2019 (Fri) 6:30-9:30pm; Jul 27, 2019 (Sat) 9am – 2pm (8 hours)

At The Yoga Room 4F

This course is for anyone curious about Thai yoga.  Great for yoga teachers to learn hands on assisting, great for yoga students to learn how to relax in poses, great for massage therapists to add to their existing repertoire. In this 8 hours course, learn what makes Thai Yoga unique and why it is a great form of bodywork for stretching connective tissues. You will use more than just your hands to position your recipient into the 22 poses within the 3 positions (seated, supine, side-lying) that are covered in this course. The poses are designed to flow from one to another in a seamless fashion like a choreographed dance routine. Students will learn the sequence and will be able to give a 60 min Thai yoga session to your clients or family upon completion of this course. In the 8 hours of training, Debby will demonstrate few postures at a time to show the proper body mechanics in transitioning from posture to posture and bodywork on a student. Students will practice on fellow students under the watchful eye and guidance of Debby to ensure safe and effective postures. The last 2 hours of the course, students will be paired and will practice the complete sequence on each other.

To teach acupoints of a particular organ meridian, it is important to understand how the 12 organ meridians are interrelated and grouped. Four (gall bladder, liver, stomach, spleen) of the 12 organ meridians will be showcased in this level. I have selected points to teach in this level that I have found to be the most common and useful.

This course is for anyone who wants to experience Thai yoga and acupoints as a recipient and practitioner. Great for yoga teachers to learn hands on assisting, great for yoga students to learn how to relax in poses, great for massage therapists to add to their existing repertoire. You as a practitioner will learn anatomy in movements, transitions from one pose to another, how to stretch connective tissues safely and locations of a few acupoints. You will use your hands, elbows, forearms, foot to administer your touch onto your client for 42 poses and 8 acupoints within the 4 positions (seated, supine, side-lying and prone). The poses are designed to flow from one to another in a seamless fashion like a choreographed dance routine. As a recipient, you will experience a 90 minutes Thai Yoga massage. In the 21 hours of training, Debby will demonstrate few postures at a time to show the proper body mechanics in transitioning from posture to posture and bodywork on a student. The 4 meridians in this course are the Stomach, Spleen, Gall Bladder and Liver meridians from the Chinese Meridian tradition. Debby will show you how to locate 8 acupoints. Students will practice on fellow students under the watchful eye and guidance of Debby to ensure safe and effective postures. The last 3 hours of the course, students will be paired and will practice the complete sequence on each other.
